Wisconsin State Fair Master Plan

The master plan for the Wisconsin State Fair addresses issues of space, circulation and programmatic versatility, while considering the area’s historic and contemporary cultural precedents. Using day-long workshops and small-group block diagramming, as well as independent and guided fairground walk-throughs during the 2018 fair, Cuningham Group worked with the Wisconsin State Fair’s ownership to deduce the strengths and weakness of the current layout and site.

After creating a diagrammatic understanding of the existing circulation paths that considered flow, site lines and view corridors, the various areas of the grounds were then delineated into ‘neighborhoods’ and clearly marked on a plan to simplify understanding of where each distinct zone exists. Other features considered in the master plan include service vehicle circulation, restroom studies, space planning refinement, daylight, and specialty lighting.
