Burnsville, Minnesota
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville was built as a triangular-shaped worship structure in 1974. Continual congregational growth throughout the following decades led to a myriad of additions and remodeling efforts, leaving the church struggling to fit their programmatic needs into their current 85,000-square-foot facility.
Cuningham’s design features a large, clearly-defined, colorful entrance and cross tower that serves as a welcoming beacon for the community. A 300-seat Celebration Hall hosts various events such as weddings, funerals, and community meetings, while an open gallery provides direct access to a new backyard patio that can host casual fellowship dinner gatherings and check-ins for patrons of the Mission Outpost. In addition, flexible spaces are strategically positioned around the facility to meet varying functions of the church and community.
