Metro Transit Heywood Master Plan
The Heywood Campus Master Plan creates a holistic campus design for Metro Transit’s Bus Operations and Administration in the heart of Minneapolis’ burgeoning North Loop neighborhood. Project goals included creating a campus-like environment, an unmistakable front door, consolidating space and connecting more strongly to the city grid. A plan was created that addresses hundreds of daily interactions and logistical issues with the bus fleet and provides green roofs, solar canopies and campus-wide pedestrian connections. The project also includes a museum-like, glass-enclosed walkway showcasing Metro Transit history and central employee gathering spaces/meeting rooms/social spaces. A new central courtyard and reconfigured entry space provide a new “front door” to the campus. Sustainable and restorative solutions for the campus were essential and focused on energy, stormwater, and HVAC components.
